An English doctor said he punched a shark in the face when he met a shark while surfing at Avoca Beach, outside Sydney, Australia.

If you’re like most people, you probably think of sharks as gentle giants that live in the ocean and need our help to stay healthy. But apparently not all sharks are nice – in fact, there’s one type of shark that can be quite dangerous. Dr. David Ritchie, a English doctor and surfing enthusiast, recently recounted an encounter he had while surfing in Australia – an encounter that involved punching a shark in the face!

According to Dr. Ritchie, he was surfing at Avoca Beach outside Sydney when he met a shark that was swimming near him. He says that the shark seemed friendly at first, but then it started to swim towards him menacingly. In fear for his safety, Dr. Ritchie says that he punched the shark in the face as hard as he could. Apparently, this was enough to scare the shark away and saved him from getting attacked.

While this story might seem like something out of a movie – or even something out of Dr. Ritchie’s wild imagination – it’s actually true and shows just how dangerous some sharks can be. If you’re ever surfing in an area where there are sharks present, it’s important to be aware of their presence and know how to identify them

A surfer in Australia punched a shark in the face when he met it while surfing.

English doctor said he punched a shark in the face when he met it while surfing at Avoca Beach, outside Sydney, Australia. The surfer was lucky to be unhurt and the shark was not so fortunate.

According to the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, the doctor – who did not want to be named – told police he punched the shark after it attacked him while he was surfing at Avoca Beach. “I was just out surfing and I saw this big black thing coming at me and I hit it with my fist,” he reportedly said.

The surfer’s lucky escape could have been worse as sharks are known to attack humans unprovoked in Australia. In 2001 a woman was killed by a great white off the coast of Victoria while her son watched onshore. And in 1998 four people were killed in NSW when they got too close to a school of sharks while swimming.

The English doctor, who was visiting Avoca Beach for the holidays, told ABC News that he’s been surfing there for years and had never seen a shark until that day.

According to the doctor, he was paddling out when he saw a shark “about two-thirds of the way out” and quickly paddled back to shore.

The doctor told ABC News that he punched the shark in the face when it came close to him and that it then retreated.

The doctor said that he didn’t feel scared and just wanted to scare it away.
